The Suffield Lateral Reclamation project involved an HDD approximately 600 meters in length under the South Saskatchewan River to replace an existing 12NPS pipeline. The scope of work also included welding the replacement pipe and completing tie-ins to the existing pipeline. The project presented a few challenges for the team which were addressed in the execution plans. Access to the entry location for the drill was at the base of a steep sandy slope. All of the drill equipment and support equipment was required to traverse the incline to access the site. Another challenge was that the entry point was 5 meters in elevation above the exit point with an 85 meter sag under the river. These challenges were overcome and the project was executed with precision and minimal impact to the surrounding environment.
