National Indigenous Veterans Day - November 8th

November 8, 2023

In honour of Indigenous Veterans Day, Somerville’s Project Coordinator, Nikki Secord, who is currently working in Ottawa on the Energy Services Acquisition Program (District Energy), really let her artistic ability shine by creating this stunning wreath. For the occasion, Nikki dressed in a traditional red ribbon skirt and wore a stunning beaded poppy broach and hair piece. Nikki also went the extra mile by designing and printing a special Remembrance Day T-Shirt featuring traditional First Nation, Metis and Inuit motifs.  Somerville cannot thank Nikki enough for her amazing artistic creations that she placed at Ottawa’s National Indigenous Veterans’ Monument in Confederation Park to honour all Indigenous Veterans on this important day.

Additionally, please feel free to check out the profile of Cpl. Hilliard P Kahpeaysewat who is an Indigenous Veteran from Moosomin First Nation, SK who served in Afghanistan. You can also attend a free virtual interview with Cpl. Kahpeaysewat which is being hosted today (Nov. 8th) from 1:00-2:00 p.m. EST by the Canadian War Museum. Somerville wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to Cpl Kahpeaysewat and all Veterans for their service.
