In 2010, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) embarked on a tremendous journey. The TTC wanted to add a second subway platform under the existing platform while having no disruptions to service. This took place on Front Street at Union Station. Robert B. Somerville was contracted through Black & McDonald to break out existing Toronto Hydro manholes, temporarily support the utiliies and rebuild the manholes at a later date near project completion. The major challenges on this project were working in a downtown urban area in front of the Fairmont Hotel while maintaining access for guests. Other work included utility maintenance for, Hydro One Networks, Bell Canada, Allstream Communications, Cogeco Comunications, Enwave and Enbridge.
