Somerville was contracted to install 18" HDPE watermain in a 28" HDPE carrier pipe underneath the Billy Bishop runway on the Toronto Island. The total drill length was approximately 600m and given the outer diameter of the carrier pipe we reamed up to 42". The project was quite sensitive given its proximity to the airplanes and drilling near and under the airport runway. Challenges included the difficulty of drilling through dense rock.
