Encana is developing its Deep Panuke gas prospect located approximately 47 kilometers west of Sable Island. The market ready gas is transported via a subsea pipeline to Goldboro for further transport into Canadian and US markets. Robert B. Somerville Co. Limited was contracted to construct the onshore interconnecting pipeline, Beach Valve Station and the Terminus Station. The pipeline was approximately 2.8 kilometers of 559 mm diameter running through new Right of Way. The Beach Valve Station comprised of a small fenced in unmanned facility that included a remotely actuated valve, instrumentation and controls connected to the Terminus Station via a buried fibre optic cable running the length of the pipeline route. The Terminus Station is a fenced in facility containing the above ground termination of the GEP and cross over connection to the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline Metering Facility. The facility also contains a permanent pig trap, cathodic protection system and associated power and controls equipment.
