Jones Street Substation - Oil Containment

Robert B. Somerville has installed several of Albarrie's SorbWeb Plus Oil containment Systems. A pit is dug around the oil-filled transformer, and an oilmat is placed, which allows water to pass through, but seals up when contact is made with transformer mineral oil. The oilmat is lined with absorbant materials to further contain the spill, and the pit is filled with a fire-quenching stone. The benefit of this system is that it can withstand vehicle and equipment loads, and does not limit the useable substation lands.
