The St. Catherine Niagara-on-the-Lake Watermain Interconnect Project This project consisted of 4,775 meters of 500mm diameter pipeline installed along Dieppe Road, South Service Road, Queenston Road, Welland Canal Parkway, Dorr Road, Sewage Haulage Road, and Niagara Stone Road - Hwy 55. Somerville was subcontracted to install 260 meters of 500mm diameter pipeline across the Welland Canal. This was the sixth time Somerville directionally crossed the Canal. This particular project required that Somerville work with minimal space for setup and minimal room for pullback. This posed some difficulty given the size of the pipe, and the length. Furthermore, given that Somerville was required to set up on an incline and the slope of the hill was quite steep, it was necessary to drill fairly steep into the ground, creating difficulty in the pullback. In order to ensure accuracy and efficiency Somerville utilized the Digitrak Eclipse Guidance System, which enabled Somerville to track the drill head. Using this system also enabled Somerville to provide accurate as-builts for our client, given the sophistication of the digitrak data forms. In addition, the soil conditions consisted of silty clay.
