TransGas (SaskEnergy), required three crossings to be installed near Leader, SK to complete their Bayhurst to TCPL loop. After prequalifying to tender the project, Somerville was awarded two of the drills and mobilized to site on May 14. To mitigate the risk of bore hole collapse near the surface, Somerville installed 30" surface casing on the South Saskatchewan River Crossing. Hammer and auguring services were supplied by Kamloops Auguring and Boring. The South Saskatchewan River Crossing was 490 meters in length, through primarily sand and gravel. Upon completion of the South Saskatchewan River crossing, Somerville drilled the south slope of the river valley. The South Slope Drill was 370 meters long, traversed mainly sand and clay shale, and included 53 meter elevation change above the rig. The North Slope Drill was shorter at 329 meters but posed the same challenges as Somerville drilled through the same material and had a positive elevation change of 57 meters.
