As part of the WAT-FIN NPS12 pipeline replacement program for Imperial Oil in Ontario, a 943m HDD crossing through 100m of overburden and then through a shale rock formation under a major creek and road was completed, with minimal disruption and on schedule. The use of a 12 1/4" PDC bit on an 8" mud motor while using wireline steering completed the pilot on target. A final reamed hole of 18" using an HDX hole opener enabled the installation of the NPS 12 pipe with no issues.
