The York Durham Sewage System (YDSS) is a state-of-the-art wastewater collection system first constructed by the Province of Ontario in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 2002 the system design was updated to meet the growth requirements of the York and Durham popluation. This project included for the construction of three (3) new flow control structures within the existing YDSS (in around Leslie Ave., 19th Avenue, Woodbine Ave., Ninth Line) to attenuate wet weather flows from the YDSS to the downstream Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, including installation of new stainless steel sluice gates with motorized actuators, and all ancillary equipment and components required to monitor and control the gates, including emergency overflow weirs to handle excess sewage, suppplying and installing level sensors to measure the depth of sewage stored behind the gates.
